Government of Pakistan’s New Program to Provide Smartphones to Citizens in Installments
The government of Pakistan has announced the introduction of a new program for access to smartphones for all citizens of the country.
Under this program, smartphones worth up to one lakh rupees will be provided to citizens in easy installments.
Speaking at an event titled Smartphone for All in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information Technology Syed Amin ul Haque said that under this scheme, every person will be able to get any mobile phone by paying 20 to 30 percent.
He said that no guarantee or paperwork will be required to get the smartphones in installments, but it will be possible to get the mobile phone only on an ID card.
He further informed that under the Smartphone for All scheme, smartphones worth Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh will be given in installments of 3 to 12 months.
He said that if an individual does not pay the installments, the phone will be locked after which it will not be able to be used anywhere in the world.
The federal minister added that the aim of the scheme is to bring smartphones to the common man and to bring small businessmen towards e-commerce, however, he did not discuss the launch date of the program.
He said that more than 70 projects worth 65 billion rupees are in progress for connectivity facilities.
Aminul Haq said that in the past, no government of Pakistan had thought of making mobile phones in the country, but today, thanks to the Ministry of IT, 29 companies are making mobile phones in Pakistan.
