ICC Announced the New Format for T20 World Cup 2024

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released a new format for the next edition of the T20 World Cup to be held in 2024.

USA and West Indies will host the T20 event which will be played in two stages before the knockout stage.

The top two teams in each of the four groups of five will advance to the Super Eight stage, where the remaining sides will be divided into two groups of four.

The top two from each group will then advance to the semi-finals, along with the hosts USA and West Indies, the top eight teams from the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia (each Super League), the ICC said in a press release. The top four in Group 12) secured spots for the 2024 tournament.

Meanwhile, the next best teams in the ICC Men’s T20 Team Rankings, Afghanistan and Bangladesh have also booked their place in the mega event.

The final eight spots for the 2024 edition will be determined through regional qualifiers.

In the regional qualifiers, Africa, Asia and Europe will each have two qualification slots, with one slot each for the Americas and the East Asia-Pacific region.

The ICC is confident that with more teams and a new format, the 2024 edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup is sure to offer fresh match-ups and historic moments.

It should be noted that England won the T20 World Cup 2022 by defeating Pakistan by five wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13.
