Pakistan Takes Decisive 3-0 Lead in ODI Series Against New Zealand with 26-Run Victory in Third Match

In the third One Day International (ODI) match between Pakistan and New Zealand, Pakistan secured a 26-run victory to take a 3-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. The match was played on May 4, 2023.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. The team scored 287 runs for 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Opener Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for 19 runs, while Imamul Haq scored 90 runs before being dismissed at 192. Captain Babar Azam contributed 54 runs, and Aghasalman and Mohammad Rizwan scored 31 and 32 runs, respectively. Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz remained unbeaten on 21 and 11 runs, respectively. Henry and Adam Milne took 3 and 2 wickets, respectively, for New Zealand.

Chasing the target of 288 runs, the New Zealand team faltered and collapsed for 261 runs in 49.1 overs. Shaheen Shah, Naseem Shah, and Wasim Jr. took 2 wickets each for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s win in this match gave them the ODI series victory over New Zealand after 12 years. The last time Pakistan won an ODI series against New Zealand was in 2011.

During the toss, Pakistan captain Babar Azam announced three changes in the Pakistan team, with fast bowler Haris Rauf, Ehsanullah, and Osama Mir being dropped, while Shadab Khan, Mohammad Wasim, and Shaheen Shah Afridi were included in the team.

The fourth and fifth ODIs of the series will be played on May 5 and 7, respectively.
